How Planning works?
Planning has two components: scheduling and estimating.
Scheduling is about tasks and resources over time.
Estimating is about quantities and costs of every material, equipment or task.
•
Scheduled activities and estimated costs complement each other and they need one another.
•
Stakeholders need to review your plan and help improve it.
This way you create a collective sense of participation and ownership of the plan.
•
At this point you have accepted and realistic cost and time baselines.
•
It’s time to start the execution phase.
•
In this phase, you start measuring progress.
And start detecting variations to your planned schedule and to your estimated cost.
Those variations are the key to a dynamic decision making process and change control.

REMEMBER
If your project cannot be measured, it cannot be managed.

Why professional planning
is crucial?
1
CRYSTAL BALL
Professional planning works like a crystal ball.
You will see the future of your project.
This allows you to make informed decisions.
NO SURPRISES.
2
STRUCTURED PROGRAMMED DECISIONS
Planning is a decision making process that takes place in the comfort of your meeting room, with no urgency. These are quality decisions.
Without planning, you will have to decide on unexpected events with little information and no time. These are often poor decisions.
3
TAKE PREVENTIVE ACTION
Corrective action deals with a problem that has already occurred. The harm has been done and your client is not satisfied.
With professional planning you take preventive action because you can predict events.
No harm has been done, the client is unaware.
4
MAKE AGREEMENTS WITH CONFIDENCE
Professional planning allows you to understand all the risks involved in an agreement and lets you avoid them.
As you will have a clear understanding of the scope of work, you will not need to lose money by over estimating quantities or underestimating time.
At the same time you will not lose money or time with poor hiring, purchasing or contracting.
5
SET CLIENT'S EXPECTATIONS
Definition of quality is the distance between what your client expects and what he receives.
Therefore you must manage client’s expectations for the client to be satisfied. The only way you can manage client’s expectations is by having a picture of future events to happen. And this can only be done with professional planning.
If there is no planning, there is no quality.
6
AVOID RE-WORK
Professional planning allows you to avoid the wasted time, effort and cost of re-work.
You will have a clear understanding of the scope of work
You will be able to paint a clear picture of the future for your client.

Who
we are
We are Rodolfo and Mark.
Together we have more than fifty years of project experience working on engineering and construction projects around the world.
•
Individually, our project experience covers phases from concept and studies, detailed design, procurement and scope placement, construction, commissioning and operational handover.
•
Industries include infrastructure, mining, architecture and construction, raw materials, oil & gas, process plants, manufacturing and utilities.
•
These are projects principally of a capital nature – for a wide range of large private sector clients including Petrobras, Xtrata, BP, Chevron, Santos, Monsanto, Boeing, Anglo Gold South Africa, Codelco Chile, Camargo Correa Brazil.
•
Working together on such a project in 2006 is how we met.
•
Since that time we have worked together on many different projects around the world.
•
We have consistently found that our combined strength helps tackle related project problems from two fronts: time and cost.
•
Each strength complements the other.
•
Knowing that combined strengths enhance the effectiveness of any team of any size, we founded Prominima in 2019.
Why
we are dedicated to project planning
We have seen successful projects.
Often these are taken for granted and not thought to be remarkable as they were simply delivered safely, fit for purpose, on time on and within budget.
We have also seen problematic projects. In every instance, these were projects we wished we had been involved with earlier.
Such a wish is meaningless – but it signifies one thing:
Professional planning is essential for the successful management of any project.
